CEP
What is CEP ?
CEP is pump used to circulate condensate water in the feed cycle path up to deaerator with pressure of 20 kg/cm^2. It is a multi-stage (8-stage) pump. ( Answered by Daneshwar Prasad Verma )
c.e.p. pump is used to extract the condensed water from the hot well and supply to the deareater after passing through l.p. heater& economizer,so that high pressure steam in the cylinder can be created.(Answered by Eesha)
What happens if suddenly CEP trips in thermal power plant ? what happens in condenser vacuum ?
Answer needed
Why the CEP of thermal power plant is made vertical ?
Vertical pump has better efficiency then horizontal pump. It requres lower NHPC.
CEP is pump used to circulate condensate water in the feed cycle path up to deaerator with pressure of 20 kg/cm^2. It is a multi-stage (8-stage) pump.

sir there are two CEP in thermal plant , if one stops then other is working. there is no effect on condenser vacuum
there are 3 CEp in which 2 is working & 1 is standby.
If the running CEP trips in a thermal power plant & standby doesnt pick up, hotwell level will rise due to nonevacuation of the condensate, eventually trubine should trip/to be tripped if protection is NA.
CEPs in power plant plants are always provided by an additional stand-by pump. generally 3×50% capacity pumps are provided. two of them are running and one is always in stand-by and has interlock with the other two. if the running CEP trips the stand-by CEP automatically pickup due to its interlock.
c.e.p. pump is used to extract the condensed water from the hot well and supply to the deareater after passing through l.p. heater& economizer,so that high pressure steam in the cylinder can be created.

there is little bit correction, here is no ECONOMISER in this path and here is high temprature steam not high pressur
If CEP trips,
1)Water in hotwell of surface condenser will accumulate, thus reducing vacuum in surface condenser.
2)Vacuum keeps on reducing as water keeps accumulating (get closer to atmospheric pressure)
3)Turbine will trip due to high exhaust pressure
4)Plant shut down.
As we can see from above, when CEP trips, plant could shut down. That is why usually there will be more than 1 CEP in a power plant for spare purpose if the 1st one stop working
what is NHPC
National Hydro Power Corporation
they meant NPSH net positive suction head
NHPC was mistake there
if CEP will suddenly trip. condenser vacuum decreases.
REASON
if cep pump is not working then a hot well level will increasing significantly . its due to condensation rate or heat transferring rate in between water tube and steam will be decreases and it was affected the vacuum.
There is two CEP in every power plant. If the one CEP trips the other will start in auto. If both the CEP are not starting, the the hot-well level will increase and tribe will be trip due to high level in hotwell.
Well as the the vacuum is concerned, if both the CEP are not working—— the definitely vaccum will drop but not tribe will not trip due to low vacuum rather it will trip due to hot-well level high.
If all cep get tripped in plant, then hot well or cst level will go high, thereby vaccum kills , deaerator level shall go down and turbine will trip.
gud luck
